It’s a wonderful day, optimal for a tour in the mountains. But it’s also the weekend of the “Coupe Icare”, and we consider having a look … finally, we somehow combine both options by walking to the top of Dent de Crolles to see the paragliders starting right from the summit. On our way up, we meet plenty of guys walking down with their glider on the back. There is too much wind up there, they say. And indeed, the further up we go, the gustier the winds. On the summit, we don’t stay for long, it’s almost crowded and not really pleasant. We follow the ridge and soon find a more quiet and less windy place for the picnic. Instead of paragliders we watch mountain choughs cutting through the air … and picking our bread and cheese crumbs by daring to come closer and closer, especially when there is a larger bite at stake.
Finally the wind calms down, and the paragliders appear: some may have started on the summit but some seem to have climbed from St Hilaire.
