8 km north of Kremlin there is VDNKha -- Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy -- which opened in 1939 as an agricultural exhibition. Close by is also the elegant, 540m high Ostaniko radio and television tower that was completed in 1967. It was “a masterpiece of Soviet engineering in the time period it was built, to become the tallest free-standing structure in the world” (dixit wikipedia).
